Bruce Tobey serves as Chief Operating Officer for CBS Films. Tobey joined CBS in March 2007 from Paramount Pictures Corporation, where he served as Executive Vice President.
In addition to establishing the films unit, departments such as Finance, Legal, and Business Affairs report to Tobey. He also oversees Home Video distribution of the film division’s releases.
During his tenure as Executive Vice President at Paramount, Tobey was responsible for the business, legal and administration operations of the Company, with oversight over the following departments: Business and Legal Affairs, Office of the General Counsel, Industrial Relations, Government Relations, Human Resources, Studio Facilities, Corporate Development, Information Systems and Paramount Digital Entertainment. His role evolved to also include key components of both a Chief Operating Officer and Chief Administrative Officer position which, in essence, meant he was involved with virtually all key transactions and decisions. He also served as one of the two Paramount representatives on the MPAA Board of Directors. Tobey was also Executive Vice President of Viacom Entertainment Group, which was comprised of the various businesses that at the time were all controlled by Paramount. These businesses included television production and distribution (Paramount Television and, through December 2001, the UPN television network), print publication (Simon & Schuster), consumer products (Viacom Consumer Products), theatres (Famous Players, Mann Theatres) and music publishing (Famous Music). Prior to Paramount, Tobey served as Vice President and General Counsel for Broadband Sports, a sports-oriented, internet-based business. From 1986 to 2000 he worked at the law firm Troop Steuber Pasich Reddick & Tobey, LLB (originally known as Hill Wynne Troop & Meisinger) where he began as an associate and left as a Partner and the Head of the Entertainment Department. He also was a member of the five-person Executive Committee. His clients primarily consisted of the major movie studios. Tobey also worked as an Associate at Sidley & Austin, a multi-national law firm. Tobey is an alumni of UCLA, both its undergraduate program and its School of Law. |
